Frequently Asked Questions

Which charger does my Garmin use?

Turn your watch over and look at the charging contacts on the case back. Most Garmin watches released from 2017 onwards, including the Fenix 5 through Fenix 8, Forerunner 45 and newer, Instinct series, Venu series, Vivoactive 3 and newer, and Epix Gen 2, use Garmin's standard 4-pin plug connector, and our Garmin Watch Charger & Data Cable Replacement covers all of these models. Older devices such as the Vivosmart HR, Vivosmart 3, Vivosmart 4, Vivoactive HR, Fenix 3 and Approach X40 use model-specific clip or cradle chargers instead. If you're unsure of your exact model, check the name engraved on the case back or open the Garmin Connect app, where your device is listed by name.

What is the difference between a charger cable, a charger dock cable and a charger stand?

A charger and data cable is a straight replacement for the cord that came in the box, plugging directly into the 4-pin port on your watch. A charger dock cable adds a weighted cradle that holds your watch flat and secure while it charges, so it won't slide around your desk or bedside table. Our Refuel charger stand props your watch upright while charging, making the screen easy to glance at and keeping your charging spot tidy. All three charge and sync your watch, so it simply comes down to how and where you like to charge.

Should I choose USB-A or USB-C?

Pick the connector that matches the ports you already own. USB-A suits older wall adapters, laptops, car chargers and power banks, while USB-C suits modern phone chargers, newer laptops and recent power banks. Charging performance for your Garmin watch is identical either way, so it's purely about matching your existing gear. Both options are available on our Garmin charger and data cables, and many customers grab one of each so there's a charger at home and another in the travel bag or office.

Which chargers suit older Garmin models like the Vivosmart or Fenix 3?

Older Garmin devices each use their own dedicated charger rather than the shared 4-pin plug. We stock model-specific replacements including the Vivosmart HR and Approach X40 charger, Vivosmart 4 charger, Vivosmart 3 clamp charger, Vivoactive HR dock, Fenix 3 and 3 HR dock and Forerunner 620 cradle. These clip and cradle designs are not interchangeable between models, so match the charger to the exact model name on your case back before ordering.
