Design of the Fitbit Versa 2

Unlike many fitness trackers, Fitbit doesn't always keep that "watch-like" appearance. Perhaps you even associate Fitbit with the thin screen and wristband. Fitbit has been changing it up and now you can look just as professional and tech-y as all the Apple and Samsung wearers.

Physically the watch is 40mm wide and 11mm thick, making it just a tad thicker than something like the Apple Watch Series 6.

There's just one size for the screen, at 35mm, which is fairly standard among watch-style wearables.

Screen Type

The 35mm screen that we already mentioned is an upgraded OLED screen. It also has an input button that functions similarly to an Apple Watch's dial.

With this OLED display, you can expect better battery performance, as well as a more clear image than an older generation's LCD display. One of the main reasons a fitness tracking company would choose an OLED screen is for battery life, which we'll talk more about in the next section.

Not only do they help with battery life, but they also improve the visual experience. The blacks are more black and the colours and images more clear in general.

Versa 2 Battery Life

Like most Fitbit wearables, the battery has an incredibly long life. With an expected six days of battery life from a single charge, it can be hard to choose any other company. Compared to a battery life of just 18 hours like many other companies offer, you can rest easy each night not worrying about forgetting to charge another device.

The battery is a built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. You can easily charge your Versa 2 with the included USB-based charging dock. You can expect your Versa 2 to be fully charged in just one to two hours!

With so many upgrades, how is Fitbit accomplishing such a long battery life?

There are several factors to consider when it comes to battery life. Fitbit talks about how their device battery life will depend on usage. If you choose to not use the battery saver mode or to use the Always-On display, you can expect a much lower battery life.

General Features

Now that all of the boring specifications are out of the way, let's move on to the fun stuff! First, we'll discuss the regular features of most Fitbits just in case you're new to the brand. In the next section, we'll check out the new features the Versa 2 has introduced.

The Fitbit Versa 2 has made itself far more versatile than older Fitbit iterations, as it is now swim-proof. Now you can take your Fitbit in the shower, pool, or even through sprinklers as it's rated to be water-resistant up to 15 meters.

It's taken some companies many years to implement sleep tracking. Meanwhile, Fitbit has continuously integrated this feature for almost a decade. Now, you can see your sleep score and how well you slept. It even details your REM cycles.

It comes with Bluetooth version 4.0. This means you can connect to your mobile device with ease.

Tracking Capabilities

The Versa 2 almost has too many fitness features to name. Let's go over the big ones first.

Breath and Oxygen Level Tracking

The breath tracking system on the Versa 2 has three components. The first is the Breathing Rate feature, which works at night with the sleep tracking function for improved analytics.

The second is the guided breathing sessions. These sessions work with the stress management features. The guided breathing sessions are personalized based on your heart rate to help you find calm and peace throughout your day.

Finally, the most important new feature is the Oxygen Saturation Monitor. Also known as SpO2, your watch can track the levels of oxygen in your blood. This is especially important to monitor during fitness, you want to make sure your lungs are receiving good blood flow and your body the proper blood-oxygen levels.

You can learn more about what Blood Oxygen Saturation is here.

Workout Tracking

Using the built-in GPS you can see your real-time pace and a map of your run via the proprietary Fitbit app. But it certainly doesn't stop there.

All-day activity tracking means you don't have to worry about starting a workout every time you start exercising. Fitbit works on the go to track your distance, calories burned, your time while active, how often you work out, and how long you spend standing still.

Specifically, when tracking your calorie burn, Fitbit helps you understand how workouts can affect your weight and health goals. By knowing just how many calories you typically burn every day, you can better plan your diet and exercise plans.

On-screen workouts encourage and coach you through sessions, and the workout intensity map helps you see how you did. With over 20 goal-based exercise modes, Fitbit is ready to help you with almost any exercise activity.

Health Tracking

Besides the blood oxygen level monitoring, the Versa 2 comes with features that can assist in monitoring many other areas of your health. From menstrual tracking to stress management, Fitbit is continually adding to not only your fitness lifestyle but also your general holistic well-being.

The Rest

There are dozens of features we can't get to here but this handy list should cover a few:

  • Built-in Amazon Alexa
  • Customizable Clock Faces
  • Find My Phone App
  • Payments with tap-and-pay
  • Heart rate zones
  • Resting heart rate
  • Reminders to move
  • Skin temperature variation
  • Floors climbed
  • Store & play music

Compatibility

One of the things many people love about Fitbit devices is that they are widely compatible. This means if you decide to change your phone brand, you don't have to worry about your wearable tech no longer functioning properly.

Fitbit works with both Android and Apple phones and tablets. Some features will require Android 7 or higher.

Fitbit has its own proprietary Fitbit App. Here, you can access all of your information and see personalized fitness and health history.

Options

We'll discuss the price in the next section. First, let's look at all the different options you can choose from with the Fitbit Versa 2.

Colours

Unfortunately, the Versa doesn't come with many colour or case options. In fact, there are only three. Of course, it's what's on the inside that counts, and most people will be satisfied with the three available colours of black, grey, and rose.

Fitbit frequently comes out with special editions of their products, so keep an eye out if there are other colour options you'd prefer. Optionally you can personalise your tracker afterwards, there are many accessories available.

Cost

The first Fitbit Versa 2 was released in 2019. With only one size option and no special editions, you only have to think about one price.

Originally, the Versa 2 would have cost you around $230. Luckily, they have since reduced the price. Currently, you can buy the Versa 2 for $195, which is quite the savings considering all those premium features.

There are no price differences between the two different sizes, which is a nice bonus.

You can look at all features and specifications from the primary source (and you can see all the colour choices) on Fitbit's website. When the Fitbit Versa 2 was first released it struggled against its competitors despite its huge array of features. Since the price drop, the Versa 2 is back on top and well worth your consideration.
